Obsessed with RED in 2017

In Luminary Colour Autumn Winter 2017 we are obsessed with the red colour family. From true scarlet, and tomato red, through to deep claret, pomegranate and darkest elderberry. Luminary Colour is created 2 years ahead of the season. As we watch the red trend grow, see below inspirations and influences emerging from both fashion and interior brands for 2017.

In September 2016 we visited the interior design trade fair in Paris, Maison et Objet. We feel that, in interiors, red has not really been on trend for many seasons. The consumer has been focused on natural, softened greys and neutral levels in the home. We are beginning to see the emergence of the red family, focus on deep berry and wine colours in the living and dining rooms. Play with a mixture of deep claret, pomegranate, ruby and dark fig on upholstery.

Lucia Pica is the global creative make-up and colour designer for Chanel. In August 2016, Pica’s first collection for Chanel was launched, and it is all about red. But this is not just about red lips (which Coco Chanel adored), we are now looking at red for lashes and eyes, from fiery crimson to deep burgundy. “I’m just obsessed with red. Red means love, and danger, and passion, but also disruption – it’s so strong.” Says Pica

The Summer 2017 international catwalks shows unveil a new romance with the red family. We will see reds emerge in clothing for the summer season, and build in importance into autumn and winter 2017. In summer we love the pinkish pomegranate reds, and bright tomato or cherry.
